Union wage effect: Evidence from Ghana

Consistent with Convention 87 of the International Labour Organization (ILO), Section 79 Act, 2003 (Act 651) empowers every employee in an organization to either form or join a trade union their choice for promotion and protection economic social interests. In spite this legal provision, coverage density Ghana have continually declined recent years. The decline is likely decrease collective bargaining strength unions. It against background that our study seeks examine effect unions’ (proxied by presence variable) on wages Ghana. We employ Heckman Selection Model quantile regression technique analyze data extracted from sixth round Living Standards Survey (GLSS 6) 2015 Force (GLFS 2015) respectively. findings indicate positive. Furthermore, finds wage premium highest at lowest point distribution (25th quantile) but (75th quantile). Whilst acknowledges importance education earnings determination, we recommend low-wage employees non-union establishment should order earn living/decent wage.
